Good guess...

So Looks like no one was right on our guessing game! Hopefully someone is right about the boy or girl guess. I'm now questioning if I've just put on 20 pounds. Hopefully there really is a baby in there. I think this is a beautiful picture of our mom. She doesn't look like a grandma at all! Love you all and can't wait for you kids to come home for Thanksgiving!!!

INSPIROLOGY

We have a completely scientific method for determining who has the best connection with heaven. It is done by each member of the family predicting the gender and arrival date of our "Little Ray/Rae"

Please turn your spiritual ears and make your inspired (or not) prediction below.

Stafford: boy, Nov 14

Shelly: girl, Nov 16

Keeping Halloween Fresh

So. It turns out that Bridger and I have nobody to do couple costumes with except each other. So we took advantage of the fact.

The first day of revelry saw us
in the guise of classy American tourists.

Day two of our festivities, we
decided to kick it up a pop culture notch. Allow me to introduce Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift. Yes, I realize that they have been broken up for a year and a half, but I couldn't very well dress up as Ashley Greene, could I? At any rate, we keep Halloween fresh, Smith family style.

NH

The adventures of NH continue. I am pretty much in love with all the beauty that surounds me. The orchards in my front and back yard, the vegetable/flower garden where most people have a neighbor. So, Ty came out to NH to spend the weekend. We hiked up to and stayed at this great hut. Greenleaf hut is totally 'green', runs on solar and wind power, complete with compost and 'crapatorry'. It is staffed during the 3/4 of the year and sits on the ridge about 1 miles from the Mt. Lafayette summit. Very fun, you show up, pick a bunk and crash, they feed you a great breakfast and dinner (employees hike everything in and out), teach you all about the territory and give you tips and weather. We met some awesome families, hiked to the freezing summit with 30-50mph winds, hoarfrost everywhere and absolutely no views of the fall colors below. Needless to say, we had a blast. My future plans include moving back to DC at the end of this month, who knows after that.

New Pajamas. I'd like to teach the world to wear a trundle-bundle. These make everyday a better day than the day before. And you can take that to the bank.

Burrup Weekend

Next weekend with the Burrups has been postponed due to work scheduling conflicts. We'll try to set something else up, but it won't be until after the first of the year. You know how November and December are in retail.

The Gibson Girls and Me

Because all that I have in my life is school, I'll give you allan update. I'm currently working on my thesis on the Gibson Girls and I am arguing that they provide a male-friendly antithesis to the threatening suffragettes. It's a work in progress but I'm making exciting headway which involves browsing through 100 year old Harper's Weekly and Ladies' Home Journal magazines to establish a background in the visual and popular culture of the period. This has led me onto other avenues such as famous suffragettes the likes of Carrie Nation (with her ax) and a fabulous Women's club called "Sorosis." (seen here in a political cartoon from Harper's Weekly as being composed of ugly and repellent women, when in reality they were educated and forward-thinking women, proposing papers about women in the field of medicine, and so forth...) So all is going well so far. Perhaps it is unsurprising that my theoretical approach is... marxist/feminist.

And you are all invited to watch me present and defend my thesis sometime in December.

I want to update everyone on Grandma Katsy. Last night I got a call that she had been taken to the hospital because of unresponsive behavior. They were concerned she may have had a stroke. They are running tests and her condition has improved. They did find a bladder infection, but nothing else so far. Dad and I stayed with her until late last night, and we'll head back down this morning. I'll keep you posted as we get information.

New Hampshire?!

So, life is pretty grand here in the 'Live Free or Die' state. I have been doing some solo hiking on the AT and catching babies (and a little deep sea fishing). New England is beautiful, I have an orchard out my bedroom window, there is a farmers stand across the street, no body cares if you are walking around on their property. Life is good.

We figured that the 3-stack barracks look would go well with the guns.

We finished this beauty sometime around 4 in the morning. Our grass was wet, so we had to paint it on the road. Once we finish the "rustic" look to match the others, we should be good to go. We all have between 22 and and 23 inches of headspace. Still can't figure out how to get off the top bunk.

News! Miriam had her babies. They are two months early weighing in at 2, 3 and 4 pounds. They feel like they will make it if no infection shows up. Say your prayers. It is a very early and rushed report that I have received. I'll update you as I get information.
